Sydney Sweeney won’t be making the cut in The Devil Wears Prada 2 (2026), as reports published on April 21, 2026, have revealed. The actress recorded her part in New York in 2025, but the early screening held on April 20, 2026, has proved that her part has been cut in post-production. Set to be released on May 1, 2026, the movie is the long-awaited comeback of one of the most recognized fashion movies ever.
Changes in the opening sequence caused cutting Sweeney’s cameo
According to a report from Entertainment Weekly, the reason was “purely structural,” relating to the pace of the beginning of the movie. Sources stated that even though the producers liked Sydney’s work, her scene didn’t quite fit in the flow of the story. The cameo, which lasted for nearly three minutes, saw Sweeney either as herself or as a celebrity client being fitted by Emily Blunt’s Emily Charlton at Dior, establishing the status of the character in the fashion world.
Production officials denied rumors about the decision having something to do with any outside controversies, explaining that they had no other motives behind cutting the actress’s scene except for editing.
Directed by David Frankel, the sequel will reunite audiences with Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, and Stanley Tucci, who will play Miranda Priestly, Andy Sachs, and Nigel, respectively. Taking place 20 years after the events of the first installment, it follows the story of Miranda, who is going through a tough period at Runway magazine and reaches out to Emily for help, now a key member of the luxury fashion business.
Along with the old faces, new cast additions include Simone Ashley, Lucy Liu, Justin Theroux, and Kenneth Branagh, but Sweeney is not among them. On the contrary, according to the news, Lady Gaga has an unspecified cameo, contributing to the soundtrack of the movie.
As it seems, the movie has nothing else to show audiences other than its original leading trio.
