Spider-Man: Brand New Day is all set to hit the theater this year. The film is undergoing a lot of changes, and this also holds especially true for some of its characters. In this case, Man-Spider has been replaced by Tombstone, and here’s why!

Marvin Jones III takes a central role in Spider-Man as Tombstone

Marvin Jones III, also known as Krondon, will appear as Tombstone in the upcoming movie Spider-Man: Brand New Day. This change was made after producers decided that Man-Spider wouldn’t be audience-friendly.

To make it simple, the team thought the appearance of Man-Spider was terrifying for the younger audience. They chose to skip the eight-legged creature and instead opted for Tombstone, as reported by Cosmic Circus.

Man-Spider is a grotesque and rather gnarly version of Spider-Man, and it makes sense why the showrunners would drop the idea totally. Think of an evolved version of Spider-Man, but more mutated and terrifying.

Instead, Tombstone will be featured in the upcoming movie and will be played by Marvin Jones III. Jones also voiced the character in Spider-Verse movies.

Regarding Man-Spider’s exclusion from the story, Alex Perez, a close associate and insider for Marvel, confirmed the news, saying, “I have heard about the concept of Man-Spider, but certain producers have expressed concern about how family audiences will react to an 8-legged monster appearing in the movie, so last I heard, they don’t want to do that.

As for Tombstone, his inclusion in the story is crucial alongside Scorpion. Brand New Day will focus on Peter Parker’s aftermath following the events happening in Spider-Man: No Way Home

Peter Parker journeys through the city and his life, where the people around him have no memories of him. This also includes MJ as well as his best friends, who remain blithely unaware of the character’s real identity.

Parker will have to return to his role as Spider-Man and start afresh while facing and navigating his inner turmoil. There will be showdowns and promising fights, and to say the least, Jones’ casting as Tombstone is spot-on!

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is slated for release on July 31st, 2026.
