Jessica Jones and Luke Cage are two of the most iconic characters in the MCU. The pair makes for one of the most cherished and beloved power couples, and not just that; Fans hope to see this ship sail for real as the stakes are already high, but what does it mean exactly? Let’s unpack this!

It’s all or nothing for Jessica Jones and Luke Cage

Jessica Jones is played by Krysten Ritter in Marvel’s The Defenders. Mike Colter plays the role of Luke Cage in the same. The common thread between both characters is trauma and loss.

They develop feelings for each other, and in the live-action, they share a passionate romance. In the comic books, however, the pair is married and has a kid named Danielle. They name their daughter after Danny Rand, aka Iron Fist, and she inherits the majority of her powers from her father.

Now that they’re married, they’re not only fighting for themselves but also their daughter, whom they must protect at all costs. Both Luke and Jessica are complex characters dealing with the turmoils of life.

Their relationship itself is turbulent, come to think of it. Jones is manipulated by Kilgrave to kill Cage’s wife. It is after this incident that she develops severe PTSD, and it becomes a jarring experience for her.

Luke also had his fair share of trials and tribulations. His traumatic past is what brings him closer to Jones. Trauma, pain, and loss become a defining factor in their relationship.

In the series, however, neither Luke Cage nor Jessica Jones is dating the other. They remain close allies and friends, especially after their romance in the first season while dating different people.

While the second season of The Defenders was axed by Netflix, it would be interesting to see how this plays out. Krysten Ritter did, however, reprise her role as Jessica Jones in Disney+ Daredevil: Born Again’s Season 2. Mike Colter, too, will be featured in his statement role of Luke Cage, aka Powerman, in Daredevil: Born Again’s Season 3, which is currently under production.
