Jurassic Park star Sam Neill has provided an important update regarding his struggle against cancer. Sam Neill, who is 78 years old, has said that he was finally declared in remission thanks to advanced forms of treatment. In a recent interview with 7News Australia, Neill revealed that recent scans had found no evidence of the disease in his body.

Advanced therapy changes the course of his illness

Neill has been fighting blood cancer called angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma since March 2022. First, he underwent chemotherapy, but the method stopped producing results. Neill then had to admit that his condition was nearing its final stages of progression and that he did not see any hope for a complete cure anymore.

“I was on chemotherapy. Pretty miserable business, but it was keeping me alive,” he said. However, the new treatment he had started proved quite efficient and brought him back into the state of health he had been expecting for so long.

I was at a loss, and it looked like I was on the way out, which wasn’t ideal, obviously,” said Neil. The therapy Sam Neill received involves modifying some of his immune cells so that they can detect and fight cancer within his body. It is known as CAR T-cell therapy.

The man admitted that his condition changed dramatically after he started receiving treatment, and his latest scan revealed that there was no trace of cancer left in his body. “I’ve had a scan just now, and there is no cancer in my body. This is an extraordinary thing.” The fact was particularly impressive considering the desperate condition he had been experiencing before.

It should be noted that the battle with cancer lasted for several years for the actor and involved him undergoing treatment while staying productive professionally. In the past, Sam Neill mentioned that he kept working on his memoirs entitled “Did I Ever Tell You This?” while fighting his illness. It is worth mentioning that the memoirs were published in 2023 as the actor keeps recovering.

Even though Neill has been in remission from blood cancer, it does not mean that he can completely stop treatment. On the contrary, the actor will need to continue taking care of his health and receive regular checkups in order to stay in good shape. However, the doctor who treated him claimed that immunotherapy is a great breakthrough in medicine that allows treating patients with incurable blood cancer.
