Actor Jacob Elordi has dropped out of the jury for the 2026 Cannes Film Festival after he was injured in a fall, resulting in a broken foot, reported sources revealed. Elordi had been selected as part of the jury for the Cannes Film Festival main competition program, which takes place between May 12 and May 23.
Acting on the spot, organizers need to substitute the absent jury member
Due to the severity of the accident and its complications, Elordi decided not to participate in his jury duties because they require mobility throughout the process. As part of the jury, he would have evaluated 22 films that are competing at Cannes this year for the Palme d’Or.
The head of this year’s panel is South Korean director Park Chan-wook, while jury members include actress Demi Moore, Ruth Negga, Stellan Skarsgård, Isaach De Bankolé, filmmakers Chloé Zhao and Paul Laverty, and directors Laura Wandel and Diego Céspedes.
The news of Elordi’s sudden withdrawal from the 2026 jury caused considerable attention on social media because of an extraordinary coincidence related to his series Euphoria. During an episode of Euphoria broadcast in late April 2026, his character Nate Jacobs got seriously injured in an attack that resulted in damage to his foot.
It happened during a significant period for Elordi, who has received an Academy Award nomination for playing the main role in the movie Frankenstein. Furthermore, he acted along with Margot Robbie in another film called Wuthering Heights, which came out early in 2026.
In addition, the actor has faced similar injuries in the past. For instance, he once suffered a back injury while playing rugby and even got burned in an accident during film production. Still, Elordi’s absence will be felt more strongly this time as it impacts his participation in an important festival.
