The Harry Potter world is filled with mystery, magic, and whimsy. It also had some of the most unfortunate tragedies, including David Holmes. The former stunt double is all set to share his experience through a stage play called The Boy Who Lived, and here’s what we know so far!
Harry Potter stunt double stars in his own stage Play
In an exclusive feature published by Deadline, it is confirmed that David Holmes, who once played Daniel Radcliffe’s stunt double, is starring in a stage play.
Holmes wrote a memoir called The Boy Who Lived: My Story, which was released in 2024. He also worked with HBO Max for the documentary, which was released in 2023, where he starred as himself, and Radcliffe acted as the executive producer.
To give some background, Holmes is a trained gymnast and started his career at the age of 16, where he first starred in Lost in Space. He had a penchant for stunts right from his early age, and his mother encouraged the idea.
Holmes went on to assist the Harry Potter crew for the first 6 films, and it was The Deathly Hallows where the accident took place. In one of the scenes, he suffered a grave injury that left him paralyzed from the waist down.
It was also revealed that he underwent multiple surgeries, and it impacted him mentally. He developed PTSD following the incident, but it was Radcliffe and other cast members’ support that aided his healing journey.
Holmes appeared on the Crisis What Crisis? podcast with Andy Coulson, where he spoke about finding healing, perseverance, and subsequent stigma within society
I always say my accident wasn’t just life-changing in my body, but it was life-changing in my heart and in my soul. Holding on to hate and blame the person you hurt the most is yourself first, you know; bad things happen to people, and normally it’s good people that happen to. The more I’ve leaned into my community and into sharing my story, the prouder I am of the way I’ve handled it.
Paul Taylor Mills will work on the script of the stage play, and it will be held at Kiln Theatre this summer.
