The fifth and final season of The Boys is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video. The popular anti-superhero franchise remains one of the most-watched web series globally. Recently, the show climbed back into the top half of the streaming charts, which prompted creator Eric Kripke to take a cheeky dig at a family-friendly show that was placed just below it.
Bluey places right below The Boys on Nielsen streaming charts; Kripke mockingly rejoices
A list of the top 10 overall programs according to the latest Nielsen streaming data was published by The Hollywood Reporter, and The Boys came second in terms of viewership with 899 million minutes watched. Meanwhile, the Disney+ show Bluey was in third position with 873 million minutes watched. The Pitt topped the list with 1,133 million minutes of viewership.
Witnessing the Nielsen report for the period between April 6 and April 12, which was updated on May 7, Kripke responded with a tongue-in-cheek comment against Bluey, celebrating his show’s success in viewership over theirs. “S— it Bluey,” he wrote on X.
What makes his comment interesting is the fact that The Boys is an adult superhero show competing with a children’s cartoon about a family of dogs. Bluey provides wholesome content that you can watch with your family, while The Boys is filled with violence, vulgarity, and unhinged adult sarcasm and commentary that could make audiences wince, despite the show being entertaining.
Furthermore, the show doesn’t hesitate to kill off fan-favorite characters, making an emotional investment in any of the cast members potentially risky. “Don’t get attached to any characters in [The Boys] … everyone’s head is on the block,” Antony Starr, who plays Homelander, told Wired.
This kind of chaotic social-media humor from Kripke is extremely on-brand for The Boys, as the franchise frequently uses shock humor and pop-culture trolling. So, it just might have been one of Kripke’s ploys to boost engagement for the final season.
The show recently released Episode 6 and will offer final closure in its last season as Homelander tightens his grip over the United States, while Starlight, along with The Boys, tries to stop him in his tracks.
