Matt Reeves is coming up with a sequel to his 2022 dark and gritty film, The Batman. It is scheduled to release in theaters on October 1, 2027. Robert Pattinson is set to return as Batman, while fresh casting reports are circulating that could pique fans’ interest.
Charles Dance expected to portray Charles Dent, as per reports
As per Deadline, Game of Thrones actor Charles Dance is reportedly in talks to join the cast of The Batman Part II. Reportedly, the talks are still in the early stages, and there has been no official confirmation from the veteran actor or the production team. Meanwhile, the report suggests that he is expected to portray the role of iconic character Harvey Dent’s father, Charles Dent.
In the comics, Charles Dent is an abusive and controlling father, and he becomes a major psychological trigger behind Harvey becoming Two-Face. With Dance having prior experience in playing darker, domineering roles, it would be interesting to see whether Reeves takes him on board for his next project based on the Caped Crusader.
Moreover, several media reports claim that Sebastian Stan is being considered for the role of Harvey Dent in the upcoming Batman film, while Scarlett Johansson is also rumored to be part of the cast. These reports remain unconfirmed. The returning cast might include Barry Keoghan, who could portray the role of the Joker, and Andy Serkis, who could return again to reprise the role of Alfred.
Furthermore, Colin Farrell, who is set to return as Oswald “Oz” Cobblepot, aka The Penguin, stated that he has read the script and thought it was “scarier” and “deeper” than its previous iteration. “I’ve read the script, from start to finish, and I can’t say much about it. But it’s deeper, scarier, the stakes are bigger. I’m really excited to see it,” he said.
Reeves’ version of Batman, which came out in 2022, explored systemic corruption within Gotham City, using murders committed by the Riddler as the plot device. The universe that the filmmaker is trying to create is a far cry from the typical superhero spectacle and is grounded in the realism of the city Batman is trying to protect, with his psychological inner world becoming a subject of focus.
With the Dent family expected to feature in the upcoming installment, Part II might just explore themes of generational damage among its villains.
