Let’s be real! Fillers are a hit or miss, but mostly fans find them obnoxious in many cases. That happens to be the case with The Boys, and Eric Kripke has finally spoken up! The showrunner recently addressed this issue in his interview, and this is what he had to say!
Eric Kripke clears the air on The Boys’ filler episodes
Eric Kripke spoke to TV Guide recently, where he cleared the air about online complaints from fans regarding filler episodes. He said, “None of the things that happen in the last few episodes will matter if you don’t flesh out the characters. I’m getting a lot of online dissatisfaction, to put it politely. And I’m like, ‘What are you expecting? Are you expecting a huge battle scene every episode?”
Before the current episode, there was the King of Hell episode, where the characters let out their inner thoughts. By doing so, the viewers get to see the inner turmoil, but it’s fleshed out and explored in that given moment.
Other than fleshing out, fillers in both TV shows and anime offer a sense of continuity, but it is also true that they can be painfully obnoxious, especially with their lengths.
Most of the time, filler episodes do not make sense, and those points are valid. Here, however, Kripke also mentioned how it is important to add conclusivity to a storyline, hence the idea of adding fillers, which even at one point he did not realize he was writing those.
The series showcases some of the most brutal deaths and the growing anticipation of what’s to come. With Firecracker gone, there’s Sister Sage and others who might be on the brink of their deaths.
The Boys is prepping up for its much-anticipated finale, which will premiere on May 20th, 2026, where the series will conclude with Episode 8.
Currently, the tables have turned, with Soldier Boy siding with his son, The Homelander, who is now a full-fledged threat. He facilitates his immortality by taking the V1, and with just two episodes left, The Boys will finally call the season to a close. It would be interesting to see how it would all pan out!
The Boys is available for streaming on Prime Video.
