Everyone’s girding their loins for The Devil Wears Prada 2. The movie features a stellar cast, and while some actors reprised their roles in this fashion flick, others didn’t. This includes Adrien Grenier, and David Frankel explains why Nate‘s character didn’t return to the movie.
David Frankel on Nate’s absence in Devil Wears Prada 2
David Frankel, director of The Devil Wears Prada 2, recently spoke to Entertainment Weekly in an exclusive interview where he addressed Nate’s absence in the sequel. He said, “I had an idea about sneaking him into a cameo, and, in the end, it was just too late in our production schedule to make it happen.”
Frankel’s statement had many fans divided. While some were happy that the toxic ex did not make a comeback, others were a bit bummed that the actor’s addition would have made the movie more iconic.
All in all, Adrian Grenier did make most of the audience detest the character. Nate, who is Andy Sachs’s boyfriend, has been deemed, time and time again, as one of the most toxic characters in the movie.
He, along with his friends Lily and Doug, discourages Andy thoroughly, as most fans have pointed out. There’s always that debate as to who tops the chart when it comes to villainy in the film.
While Miranda Priestly is seen as one of the obnoxious characters by some fans, Nate and his friends take the cake. Grenier, at one point, justified his character and also felt the backlash from fans was blown out of proportion.
The actor also recently addressed his absence from the movie, hoping he would possibly be recast in a spinoff. This also might have to do with the public’s thorough critique of his character in the movie.
“It was a disappointment that I didn’t get the call to be in the sequel, but I also understand there’s some backlash with Nate, the character, so that might have something to do with it. But I think that just leaves room for a spinoff.”
Not only that, Simon Baker, who played Christian Thompson, also did not reprise his role. While Grenier’s absence was speculated as a snub, Baker chose not to seek out the atypical roles, as he revealed in an interview.
