Studio Lerche has once again made it clear that they have no interest in leaving fans waiting after the Year 1 conclusion. According to the production team, the story of the Second Year arc has finally begun, and keeping Ayanokouji in the background for any longer would not feel right.

Lerche says ‘Classroom of the Elite’ Season 4 will be the most high-stakes semester yet

Speaking about the future of the series, director Noriyuki Nomata said the April 1 premiere was always meant to be a massive event. The season launched with a special 90-minute broadcast covering the first four episodes to set the pace for the new school year.

We put the start of the season with a long premiere because the Year 2 arc needed that momentum,” Nomata explained.

He added that, moving into the Second Year, First Semester, he decided to expand the cast even more easily. “Do you want to see a school year without new threats from the White Room?” Nomata said. “The answer is no.”

For the creative team, the series is inseparable from Ayanokouji and the psychological games he plays from the shadows. They have repeatedly said they have no interest in slowing down, with the first special exam already pairing second-years with a fresh batch of dangerous first-years. In their view, any version of this story that didn’t introduce students like Tsubasa Nanase and Kazuomi Hosen would simply fall short.

The studio has also become more outspoken about protecting the franchise’s legacy. They reportedly have a strict production schedule with Kadokawa that ensures all 16 episodes of the semester will drop weekly through June 24.

Recently, the creators joked that their answer to fans asking about the White Room’s next move is to just watch the mirror. Despite the humor, they said they truly believe that too many modern sequels ruin their tension by giving away the mystery too soon, whereas they want to keep the “assassin” hidden for as long as possible.

“It definitely helps to pinpoint and know exactly what you want to do,” the team said regarding Ayanokouji’s evolving strategies. “Can he avoid expulsion while sussing out the identity of this hidden foe?

Instead, the producers believe the current dynamic between Class D and the new first-years remains the perfect way to test Ayanokouji’s limits.

Although the season is currently airing, the creators have continued expanding the world in other ways. They see the concurrent English dub release on Crunchyroll as a companion to the original broadcast rather than a replacement.

The studio is also reportedly working on a secret retrospective project, which is expected to be released in 2026 and look back at the making and legacy of the first three seasons while the Year 2 arc unfolds.
