From Euphoria to Dune, Zendaya’s career has been an interesting mix of different genres. The actress has constantly challenged herself by partaking in diverse projects, but she clearly has a unique method of picking her roles, and here’s what she had to say about that!
Zendaya opens up about her process of choosing roles
In an interview with Vogue Globo, she was asked what her process of choosing roles and characters is, to which she replied, “It is important that the work is exciting, but also a little scary, like a little healthy fear in relation to being able to take on the character or not, is always good. It’s a challenge for me to complete.”
Zendaya kickstarted her career in Hollywood at the age of 14 years old when she starred in Disney’s Shake It Up. She then went on to star in a variety of films and TV projects.
While she started her career as a child actor, Zendaya rose to fame as a singer. She released several albums as well as singles and even did roles as a voice artist.
Be it Superbuddies, Smallfoot, or the Space Jam series, she lent her voice to animated movies. She will play the role of Felicia in the upcoming movie Shrek 5. Not only that, but Zendaya also explained her method of choosing roles and how she feels right when she reads a script.
I like complex and interesting characters that challenge me and unfold. When I’m choosing roles, I get a lot of inspiration from the script. For me, it’s not easy to maintain attention for very long; I get distracted very easily when I’m reading.
Through her roles in Dune, Euphoria, and the Spider-Man franchise, Zendaya proved her range as an actress. Her role as Rue brings out the complexities of her character, be it her inner conflict as well as her struggle with relationships.
Her character in Dune takes it a notch further since Chani is a skilled and fierce warrior fluent in combat and military warfare. She is all set to take this fierceness to a whole new level with her role as Athena in Odyssey, which will be released this year.
