Warner Bros. and Paramount Skydance’s merger has been the talk of the town ever since it was announced back in February. There have been many updates to this deal, and now it seems like Warner Bros. is finally backing this one, but there’s a catch to that as well!
Warner Bros greenlights Paramount Skydance’s acquisition deal
Variety reported that Warner Bros. shareholders have officially backed the $111 billion deal, but it also had several votes of contention from a majority of people.
The contention was regarding David Zaslav and other top executives getting a major chunk of payouts, which was finally rejected as the majority voted in favor of the deal but rejected the golden parachute payout.
It was only recently that the news was made public that Zaslav will receive a payout of a whopping $550 to $886 million, and the internet did not take kindly to that.
The deal itself raised questions and concerns regarding the staff payouts amid massive layoffs at a time when most companies are relieving their staff from service.
This voting is non-binding, as the media reports suggest. To make it simple, it means that while a majority of a chunk of voters opposed the idea of Zaslav and other execs getting a golden payout, it will happen in any case.
The non-binding voting is where the majority of the people express their views and insights on a given matter, but it is all up to the Board of Directors whether they will implement it or not.
Which in this case, it is highly likely that while it seems to appear that WB is holding back the payouts, they will not follow through with this judgment, as many netizens speculated on the internet.
Time and time again, netizens have also pointed out the piling debts of both Warner Bros and Skydance. It also comes after both companies are aiming to reduce production costs and effectively cut costs by ensuring massive layoffs, which further facilitates their restructuring.
This deal between Skydance and Warner Bros is expected to close by the third quarter of 2026, as suggested by some media outlets.
