The Boys is currently on its season finale, and recently the series released its 5th episode. It was all gory and devastating, especially with Firecracker’s death. This is what Valorie Curry had to say about her character, so let’s take a look!
Valorie Curry’s honest thoughts on Firecracker
Valorie Curry recently did an interview with Collider’s Ladies Night, hosted by Perri Nemiroff. She spoke about the scenes with Reverend, but also opened up about her character, Firecracker, where she said:
It felt like it reconnected to the character that I first met when I was reading the audition scenes, because she’s an unhealed child. It’s that she is truly unmasked. It’s because she’s just she is that child again, and that’s who he sees, and it’s the most vulnerable part of her. I loved getting the opportunity to take the mask off because I’ve never played a character who is so performative and asked very different things of me as an actor than I’ve ever done before.
Misty Tucker Gray, also known as Firecracker, is played by Curry in Eric Kripke’s The Boys. She is one of Homelander’s minions and a rather devoted one, that too.
While Homelander took her into his wing and she acted as one of his henchwomen, it was Reverend Dupree who saw through her troubled persona. It mainly stemmed from her trauma and her conflict with Starlight.
The shame Firecracker faced as a child was something that eventually fueled her hatred for Starlight as she grew up. To make it even worse, her parents enrolled her in the pageant where Sparkler tainted her image in front of her peers.
While her pain became purpose eventually, Firecracker’s unhealed and unsupervised nature led her to commit atrocious acts. Her devotion to The Homelander was called into question after it was revealed she had an affair with his father, Soldier Boy. Her end, although gory, was devastating in more ways than one, especially with the brutality with which Homelander ends her.
The Boys Season 5 is currently available for streaming on Amazon Prime.
