It was payback time for former NFL superstar Tom Brady. The tables had turned, and it was time for comedian and actor Kevin Hart to sit in the hot seat at Netflix’s live comedy special The Roast of Kevin Hart. Remembering the personal digs aimed at him during the streamer’s 2024 roast, Brady returned the favor.
Brady jokes about “showing up” unlike Hart’s father
Tom Brady made a surprise appearance at the Netflix special and dug up dirt on Kevin Hart to dish it out as jokes. And best believe he made it personal. Brady’s set could widely be viewed as payback for Hart’s performance during Netflix’s 2024 The Roast of Tom Brady, where the comedian repeatedly mocked Brady’s divorce from Gisele Bündchen.
During his set, Brady mocked Hart’s strained relationship with his father. “Have you just been here screaming into that mic the last two years, waiting for daddy to come home? Well, unlike your real dad, I actually showed up,” Brady quipped as the crowd cheered him on. Hart had a very difficult relationship with his father, Henry Robert Witherspoon, during his formative years due to his drug addiction and frequent incarceration. Thus, Henry was largely absent from his life, leaving his mother to raise him as a single parent.
However, the personal digs did not stop there. He also wasted no time launching into jokes referencing Hart’s infamous 2017 cheating scandal involving a Las Vegas trip while his wife, Eniko Hart, was pregnant.
“I do have a few words for you before I return to my affairs in Las Vegas. Oh, wait, I’m talking about affairs in Las Vegas. Was that off? Not supposed to talk about affairs in Vegas? I think I broke another rule. F—- it. I talked about it,” he sarcastically remarked. Moreover, Hart’s height also became a subject of ridicule, with Brady offering him a child-sized New York Knicks jersey.
This year’s The Roast of Kevin Hart streamed live on Netflix as part of the Netflix Is a Joke Fest from the Kia Forum in Los Angeles. Hosted by Shane Gillis, the event featured a celebrity-heavy lineup including Jeff Ross, Regina Hall, Pete Davidson, Lizzo, and surprise appearances from Dwayne Johnson and Brady himself.
The Brady roast in 2024 was a massive hit, garnering 2 million views on its debut night. Meanwhile, the response to Kevin Hart’s roast was mixed, with some finding it at par with the 2024 Emmy-nominated Netflix special, while others felt it lacked the energy and intensity of the former NFL quarterback’s insult comedy event.
