Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man “100%” confirmed for Avengers: Doomsday by insider

An insider claims Tobey Maguire will definitely appear in Avengers: Doomsday.

More than two decades since the character first swung into action in the NYC skyline in director Sam Raimi’s film, there is new news emerging about Spider-Man, played by Tobey Maguire, who is “100%” set to make an appearance in what is likely to turn out to be the most pivotal one yet. As reported by industry insider Daniel Richtman, alias @DanielRPK on X, Maguire is set to appear in the new release from Marvel Studios, Avengers: Doomsday, on the 18th of December, 2026, and this is likely to turn out to be the largest crossover event in the MCU universe since Avengers: Endgame.

This has been made official on January 19 and has sent the Marvel community into overdrive, as it has basically confirmed that The Multiverse Saga has no plans to hold back in terms of their use of nostalgia as a tool, but instead looks to have its sights set on utilizing it to its fullest extent. Maguire’s return will lock in Doomsday’s position as a film that aims to advance the future of the Marvel universe, but to merge all of the Marvel history prior to it in terms of what has come to be known as the MCU today.

Nevertheless, there is one crucial aspect mentioned in Richtman’s report that fans should not be anticipating—the wearing of the suit as they know it.

Daniel Richtman says, “Not ‘potentially,’ 100%”

As reported, Maguire is not going to don the practical Spidey suit in his appearances. For his series in Doomsday, his Spidey suit is going to be all computer-generated, where his image is going to be captured in motion capture in the location shoot. There was also talk of creating another practical Spidey suit, but because of time constraints, it had to be pushed back due to the main filming in London. The Russo Brothers decided to create Maguire’s Spidey character in its entirety in post-production instead.

This is likely to prove to be an issue of contention. For any serious fan, it is hard to think of this costume design without this concept of this specific version of Spider-Man being depicted by this specific version of Peter Parker, as shown by Sam Raimi’s earthy and authentic take on this character. The specific costume design using this computer-generated imagery will likely have to make some compromises on this specific issue of authenticity. Notwithstanding this issue, it has been suggested that this specific computer-generated imagery will allow Marvel to incorporate this specific design of this version of Spider-Man to have this specific beard design in this specific design of Ultimate Spider-Man comics.

As per the legend of this story, it has been rumored that it’s definitely going to happen, but not in a cameo appearance for Maguire’s return. There have been some rumors regarding his appearance in the early part of the film, which will mark the beginning of the gigantic ‘incursion’ action scene, when all the worlds begin to fall apart. The most exciting part of it all will be when he meets Wolverine, played by Jackman, who is to have their first encounter because they are the best superheroes of the early 2000s.

However, what is critical here is that it seems as if Avengers: Doomsday is clearly gearing up to be more of a combination of heavy-hitters in the multiverse than a traditional Avengers team-up. The fact that Tom Holland’s Spider-Man is allegedly caught up in a street-level storyline in some corner of the MCU makes it seem as if Maguire’s Spider-Man is going to be what ties together Marvel’s past and its future in some form or fashion as yet unknown. The extensive use of CGI is certainly a risk.

But given that the Russo brothers are again at the controls here, and given the success of Infinity War and Endgame, it’s clear that Marvel is banking on its working out as intended. If so, it seems as if Richtman’s reporting on the new series makes it clear that Tobey Maguire is returning in a new series featuring his Spider-Man character and potentially could redefine what a legacy character is in a multiverse Marvel finds itself in.
