Fans have been on the edge of their seats ever since The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum was announced. There have been speculations and suspense overall regarding who will be playing what. So here’s everything you need to know about the stellar cast joining the upcoming film.

The Hunt for Gollum reveals an illustrious cast

The Lord of the Rings: Hunt for Gollum cast was recently revealed at CinemaCon in 2026. As reported by Variety, the cast has actors returning to their iconic roles, and these include Ian McKellen, Elijah Wood, and Andy Serkis. They will reprise their roles of Gandalf, Frodo, and Gollum, respectively. Serkis is also directing the upcoming movie, but it also features a grandiose additional cast.

Jamie Dornan is all set to play the role of Strider, aka Aragorn, which was previously played by Viggo Mortensen. Kate Winslet will play Marigol, Smeagol’s grandmother, who also happens to be the Stoor family’s matriarch.

Marigol’s connections with Gollum will be expanded upon in the upcoming film. There are also reports of Anya Taylor-Joy joining the cast as Arwen, though nothing has been officially confirmed as of now.

What is, however, confirmed is that Leo Woodall has joined the cast as a new member. He will play Halvard, and joining him is yet another seasoned actor, Lee Pace, who will reprise his role as Thranduil. It happens to be one of his iconic roles, as he stood out as the Elf King of Mirkwood.

Earlier this year, Elijah Wood shared tidbits about Kate Winslet joining the cast. He also confirmed Leo Woodall joining the additional cast on the Happy Sad Confused podcast.

Based on J. R. R. Tolkien’s bestselling novels of the same name, the movie loosely takes its lore from The Fellowship of the Ring. It is a prequel set after the events of The Hobbit and will flesh out Gollum’s trajectory.

The upcoming movie will also highlight Aragorn’s identity as Strider and his journey to find and hunt down Gollum. It is all done to prevent the ring from falling into the hands of Sauron.

The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for the Gollum is scheduled for release on December 17, 2027.
