Hunger Games actor Josh Hutcherson has addressed the online reaction after he referred to himself as not being a “Swiftie.” In an interview with British GQ for its new cover, the actor detailed how the internet took things out of hand and made an otherwise normal conversation quite ugly.
Actor explains why backlash against his Swiftie comment was so disproportionate
Recalling the moment he addressed Taylor Swift fans, Hutcherson shared what followed soon after. He said that people went into a rage in less than an hour. From suffering insults and exaggerated statements that painted a bad picture of him, the actor had seen it all because of those few words. “I think she’s great,” he said. “Her music is not my kind of music.”
The whole situation also went viral because of the fact that Hutcherson himself attended the Eras Tour by Taylor Swift. During the December 2025 photo shoot, he had clarified the reason behind attending the concert. “I did not go there,” he mentioned, clarifying that his mom made him attend it. But his tone while sharing that information was enough to spark a controversy.
Despite everything, the actor has remained true to his statement and has stayed away from social media. Explaining why this particular moment became so ugly in less than two hours, Hutcherson stated that it proved just how fast conversations become personal.
The interview also explored Hutcherson’s current projects, including the upcoming second season of his comedy drama, I Love LA. Premiered on November 2, 2025, the show was greenlit for season two, which will go under production sometime in the latter half of 2026.
Hutcheson will be seen reprising his role as Mike Schmidt in the horror game movie adaptation Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, which hit the streaming platform Peacock in April. He recently wrapped filming for The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, which is currently in post-production. However, the actor chose not to reveal any further details.
