After taking the Netflix audience on a decade-long supernatural ride through their joint passion project, Stranger Things, the Duffer Brothers are finally bidding adieu. Yep, Ross and Matt Duffer have found their new homes at Paramount Studios, as their 2015 deal with the streaming giant concluded in April. As the duo grabs a new contract, fans are curious to know what might be in store. Let’s dive in.
Duffer Brothers make their first appearance with Paramount
According to Deadline, the Duffer Brothers have struck a four-year exclusive deal with Paramount Pictures. The contract includes producing feature films, television shows, and streaming projects. The film production and distribution company announced the news on Wednesday via a promotional video that celebrated its long-standing legacy and hinted at future projects.
The grand promo premiered at the studio’s presentation at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, with another airing in Los Angeles later on the same day. Directed by Wicked‘s Jon M. Chu and narrated by Tom Cruise, the video featured the Duffer brothers munching on popcorn in a dark movie theater. Next, the camera pans to renowned director Jerry Bruckheimer, saying, “This is my favorite part.”
Meanwhile, the clip also featured artists who joined Paramount in the last eight months and those who have headed its iconic movies in the past. These included talented industry geniuses such as James Mangold, Issa Rae, Dan Trachtenberg, and Will Smith. The group also featured actors who left viewers in awe with their on-screen craft in past projects.
These included Timothée Chalamet, Mark Wahlberg, Chris Pratt, Marlon Wayans, John Krasinski, Teyana Taylor, and Johnny Knoxville. In their cameo, the Duffer Brothers shed light on the studio’s history. Interestingly, the appearance also confirmed the start of a new era: their debut as filmmakers.
As per Deadline, the opportunity to work on theatrical movies prompted Ross and Matt to cut ties with Netflix and move to Paramount. However, they will continue to be involved in future Stranger Things spinoffs. For the record, their deal with Paramount was first announced in August 2025.
“David [Ellison], Josh [Goldstine], and Dana [Goldberg] are passionate about bringing bold, original films to the big screen,” the Duffer brothers said after the announcement. “To be part of that mission is not just exciting—it’s the fulfillment of a lifelong dream. And to do so at a studio with such a storied Hollywood legacy is a privilege we don’t take lightly.”
After brief sketches from multiple A-listers, the clip in focus ends with Cruise sitting on a water tower at Paramount Studios. His voiceover goes like, “The future is paramount, and the future looks pretty great from here.”
