Sam Witwer is the voice of the renowned former Sith weapon-turned-crime boss, Maul, in the animated series Maul—Shadow Lord. The show was released exclusively on Disney+, with a two-episode premiere on April 6, 2026. While on a promotional run for the show, Witwer revealed that the character’s story arc could be turned into a video game feature.
Darth Maul video game could be “incredible,” says Witwer
In an interview with DiscussingFilm, the actor discussed the possibility of a Darth Maul video game. Interestingly, a Darth Maul video game titled Star Wars: Battle of the Sith Lords was being developed by Red Fly Studio in the 2010s but was ultimately cancelled around the time of The Walt Disney Company’s acquisition of Lucasfilm.
However, this time, Witwer—who has also played a significant role in Star Wars video games as the main protagonist of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed—stated that an “incredible story” could be crafted if a Maul-based video game project were given the green light.
“I’ve become convinced that we could do an incredible story. If you asked me maybe two years ago, I don’t know, probably I would have said yes anyway. But now I am like I know what we can do with him, for sure,” Witwer said.
Maul’s evolution from a fallen Sith to a powerful crime lord has already been charted across multiple Star Wars projects. After surviving his brutal encounter with Obi-Wan Kenobi, he gradually rebuilds his influence, ultimately emerging as the mastermind behind the galactic underworld syndicate Crimson Dawn. The story does carry the potential to be translated into a video game project.
Notably, Starkiller remains one of the most popular non-film Star Wars characters, and Witwer was heavily involved in contributing to the character’s depth and dialogue delivery.
Now, with his experience voicing the lead character in Maul—Shadow Lord and his proven background in video games, it wouldn’t be a bad idea for the actor to pitch himself for a Darth Maul video game project.
Nevertheless, the animated series on Disney+ will release two episodes each week after the premiere, with the season finale set for May 4.
