The news of Princess Diaries 3 in the works had most fans in a chokehold. There were fan tributes, edits, and unofficial teasers. The plot isn’t revealed, but the Director gave a sneak peek as to what fans may expect from the third installment in the franchise.
What can fans expect from Princess Diaries 3?
Princess Diaries 3’s director, Adele Lim, recently did an interview with Gold Gala where she spoke about the audience and, most specifically, women navigating motherhood.
“There are so many movies that are wish fulfilment for princesses, we don’t have a lot of wish fulfilment movies for queens. That’s what we are setting out to do here, to show a woman in her full power.”
Rightly so, The Princess Diaries is about exploring friendships, family, but most of all, it highlights female friendships as well as Mia’s entire journey.
As a high school teenager, Mia experiences bullying, but with the help of her grandmother and Joe, who acts as a father figure to her. She claps back at bullies and solidifies her self-worth.
The sequel was about her role as a princess in Genovia, where people are actively fighting for the throne. There are rivals, both in political terms and romantic terms.
It all ended with Mia ascending to the throne and taking her position as the rightful Queen of Genovia. This is where the third movie will pan out her future responsibilities.
There are reports of the movie being set 20 years after the second film. It will focus on Mia’s exploration of parenthood, her monarchial responsibilities, and so much more.
Currently, Anne Hathaway is featured in The Devil Wears Prada, and she’s also working on a variety of projects. She will star in Odyssey, alongside Zendaya, Tom Holland, Matt Damon, and many others. The movie is set to release in July 2026.
When asked by Entertainment Weekly if she’s returning to Princess Diaries 3, she said, “One hundred percent, we’re constantly working on it.”
This was in reference to her being heavily involved in Devil Wears Prada 2, and following the movie’s release, she can finally work on Princess Diaries 3, provided they work out the script.
