Kanye West is one of the defining hip-hop artists of the 21st century. Ever since his debut album, The College Dropout, dropped in 2004, he has delivered numerous chart-topping hits and multiple No. 1 albums on the Billboard 200. However, his controversial statements in recent years have led many brands to cancel sponsorship deals.
Kanye’s views are not brand-friendly!
The beverage giant PepsiCo has officially withdrawn its sponsorship of the Wireless Festival in London, which is scheduled to be headlined by Kanye West. The move comes as West was booked to headline all three nights of the festival. The event had been branded “Pepsi presents Wireless” for years, and Pepsi’s exit marks a major commercial hit.
“Pepsi has decided to withdraw its sponsorship of Wireless festival,” a Pepsi spokesperson said.
Reportedly, the hip-hop artist’s visa application to enter Britain could be cancelled if authorities deem his presence not conducive to the public good. The rapper has courted controversy in the last couple of years for antisemitic comments and expressing admiration for Adolf Hitler.
To make things even more difficult for brands to associate with him, West released a song titled HEIL H—– last year and also marketed a swastika-themed T-shirt on his website.
Now that Pepsi has withdrawn its sponsorship, there are huge question marks over whether the festival, scheduled to take place at Finsbury Park in July, will actually move forward. Furthermore, the owner of the Johnnie Walker and Captain Morgan brands, Diageo, has also withdrawn its sponsorship from the event.
“We have informed the organisers of our concerns, and as it stands, Diageo will not sponsor the 2026 Wireless Festival,” a statement issued by Diageo read.
The situation came to a head when the Prime Minister of the UK and several other politicians in the country highlighted the “Heartless” singer’s previous antisemitic remarks and “celebration of N—–.”
Kanye West’s career has seen repeated commercial fallout due to his statements, and festivals now face pressure to balance artistic freedom with public and sponsor backlash. With massive public outcry, which includes many Jewish organizations and community leaders strongly condemning the festival’s decision to headline West, it shouldn’t come as a surprise if he is dropped from the lineup entirely.
