New My Hero Academia special I am a hero too Eri 8 years after finale

My Hero Academia returns with an Eri-focused special set 8 years later, exploring her life beyond hero work.

Ever thought why the girl who spent her childhood as a human experiment is suddenly picking up a guitar instead of a hero license? And why was her music career even introduced in the first place? Well, it seems like most fans are finally getting that 8-year time skip closure they’ve been begging for, and here’s everything you should know about it!

MHA world turns to character-focused approach for epilogue

As reported by Toho Animation, the world of My Hero Academia isn’t quite finished yet. They’re reintroducing Eri in a standalone special before the franchise dips into any more full-scale production. A source familiar with the production gave her insight into how this move could potentially benefit the franchise in an interview with Variety.

I think that what we all learned with this adjustment to a slightly different volume is being a little bit more steady and focused on these characters to really set ourselves up for long-running success.

For the uninitiated, the special is based on a one-shot by Kohei Horikoshi. It’s a primer, a test run, and most importantly, a heads-up for an entire team to see where the story stands as a whole after the war.

If the special receives good feedback, they move ahead with more epilogues, and honestly, it seems like a smart move. However, as time went by, fans wondered if Eri would ever use her Rewind quirk professionally. There are also several criticisms regarding how the series handles characters who choose normalcy.

Some critique the epilogue stories on their lack of action and for being lackadaisical, and more often than not, it isn’t true. It also has to do with the kind of consumption that goes on when it comes to Shonen.

With streaming platforms, a certain segment of the audience requires readily available battles with all the action in one go. There are, however, stories like Eri’s that offer a character-focused approach to their series, and it is a refreshing case indeed.

Earlier, adult Deku showed off his new mechanical suit in the finale, and it would be fascinating to see how Toho Animation and other platforms incorporate this approach.
