With Marvel Studios set to bring two Avengers movies by 2027, fans’ curiosity is getting out of hand. There have been reports of multiple heroes becoming part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And now, Marvel insider Alex Perez teased that a new character would carry forward the legacy of Taskmaster, who’s already six feet under. Read on to know the full tea.
Alex Perez hints at the reuse of Taskmaster’s superpowers
During this month’s Q&A with Discord users, Alex Perez shared a sizzling scoop on the upcoming characters and their arcs. A user asked The Cosmic Circus reporter about the future Avengers team and whether someone could end up like Black Widow, who sacrificed herself in Avengers: Endgame. While Perez didn’t confirm anyone’s death, it brought him to shed light on another character who is no longer alive.
“New Avengers-wise, Marvel is planning to wait less time to make the next Avengers movie because they want to focus on the actual team and less on the big event team-ups,” Alex replied. “As for the Black Widow plot…I heard something interesting about a certain character who died [Taskmaster], but her technology will be reused for another character who’ll take up her mantle.”
While Alex didn’t explicitly mention Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko), the character’s unique power and devastating fate make the case. Antonia Dreykov, Taskmaster’s female version, made her MCU debut in Black Widow. With her advanced gear and neurological implants, she could analyze and replicate the fighting styles of star superheroes such as Captain America and Black Panther in real time.
The character dies at the hands of Ghost in Thunderbolts, which came out last year. Since Perez has already discarded Taskmaster’s return in both Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, it makes sense for a new character to utilize her ground-breaking technology and elevate her legacy. But guess what? Right after Perez’s revelation, many X users hoped to see Anthony’s version of Taskmaster.
Created and written by David Michelinie and George Perez, the character debuted in Marvel Comics in 1980. Meanwhile, one user pointed out a different character with an interesting point. “Iron-Man had this tech in Civil War when he fought Steve,” they wrote. “I’m guessing black iron girl has it too. Even tho she didn’t use it.” With information still under wraps, the guessing game may continue. Who do you think Perez was referring to?
