James Gunn has started the reboot of the DC Universe, with the first installment, Superman, marking the beginning of a new era following Zack Snyder’s DC Extended Universe. The second major installment in the DCU Chapter One: Gods and Monsters is Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. In a recent interview, the film’s lead, Milly Alcock, revealed her expectations for the movie.

Milly Alcock is equal parts terrified and privileged to lead DC superhero franchise

It is quite an exciting time for the 26-year-old actress, as this is the first time Milly Alcock will be leading a superhero franchise. Entertainment Tonight recently caught up with her to ask if she is feeling the nerves ahead of the film’s release on June 26, 2026. The actress said she feels privileged to be in this position, but is also terrified about how her role will be perceived by audiences.

“I mean, it’s an incredibly exciting experience. It’s such a privilege to be like, oh my god, this is my life, and how wonderful that it’s all kind of happening and worked out. I am going to be okay, but then equally, I am utterly terrified,” she said.

Furthermore, when the interviewer mentioned that many young girls would be watching the movie, Alcock was excited by the prospect. “That’s really going to get me. That’s going to be the thing that wells me up.”

She further stated that she feels a kind of “kinship” with her character and wants young women to come to theaters to see it. Elaborating on her character, the actress added that despite all her flaws, she is guided by good intentions.

“The message is like, to be good, you have to be a bit bad. Like, it’s okay to be flawed. It’s okay to be messy. As long as your heart is in the right place,” she stated in conclusion.

The film will adapt the comic Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow by Tom King. The plot will likely follow Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl, as she embarks on an “interstellar journey of vengeance and justice” after “an unexpected and ruthless adversary strikes too close to home,” according to the comic book’s synopsis.
