Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown is shooting for the stars. The actress is all set to produce her Netflix movie, and according to the latest updates, she has approached Tom Hooper for her flick. Here’s everything we know so far!
Tom Hooper to direct Millie Bobby Brown’s Netflix flick
Deadline, in their exclusive feature, confirmed Tom Hooper’s involvement in Millie Bobby Brown’s film. The movie will star Brown in the lead, while Anthony McCarten will write the screenplay.
Hooper is known for his movies like The Danish Girl, The King’s Speech, and most notably, Cats. He is an award-winning director who has worked on various genres, be it period drama or musicals.
Similarly, McCarten wrote screenplays for The Theory of Everything, Darkest Hour, and Death of a Superhero. He is also one of the most acclaimed screenplay writers who has bagged BAFTA and Academy Awards for his works.
Brown’s movie is based on her novel Nineteen Steps, which was eventually written by a ghostwriter, Kathleen McGurl. The novel is based on the events of WW2 and the love story that follows through these events.
Most notably, the novel speaks of the 1943 Bethnal Green Tube disaster. Brown recounted losing her family members in one of the interviews where she spoke of her family history.
Through her novel, Brown narrates her Grandmother’s experience and accounts she listened to as a kid. The novel brings those stories to life, and the actress is all set to star in the movie as one of the main leads.
In a 2023 interview with Hoda Kotb from TODAY, Brown spoke about the nature of her grandma’s stories and why it was important for the world to read about these stories.
“Of course, there is a lot of tragedy within the stories that she was telling me, but there is also a lot of humor and a lot of love, community, and friendship, and I felt like this could be something really important for people to know about.”
The release date and the production details of the movie have not been made official yet. Some unofficial sources do suggest that the movie might be slated for a 2028 release, but nothing has been confirmed so far.
