The White Collar star shared the story in a joint Entertainment Weekly interview alongside Outcome costars Keanu Reeves and Cameron Diaz, published April 8 ahead of the film’s Apple TV+ premiere.

I had someone almost hit me with a car,” Bomer told his costars. “They were really excited. It wasn’t the best way to break the ice, but they didn’t mean harm. They just weren’t thinking in the moment.

As he explained it, the fan had spotted him mid-turn and completely lost focus on the road. “They were turning left and saw me as they were turning, I guess. They wanted to say hi, and then pulled over, and it was awkward.”

He was quick to emphasize there was no malice involved, adding, “I’m always grateful that people have responded to whatever you’ve done, but that was definitely one of the times it got a little out of hand.

Reeves immediately seized the moment. “My God, Matt Bomer, you were causing traffic accidents!” he said, prompting Bomer to clarify, “No, no. It was one time.”

Diaz, never one to miss an opportunity, jumped in with, “I’d crash my car if I saw you on the street,” which is honestly just a reasonable response.

The anecdote came during a broader conversation about how Outcome mirrors real experiences of fame.

In the film, Reeves plays Reef Hawk, a Hollywood star who has been sober for five years and is living quietly until his crisis lawyer, played by Jonah Hill, informs him that he is being blackmailed over a mysterious video.

He must then track down the source by confronting people from his past and making amends for old wrongs. Bomer and Diaz play Xander and Kyle, two of Reef’s closest and most loyal friends.

Bomer noted that he related far more to his character than to Reeves’ A-list superstar.

I’ve been more like Kyle and Xander, honestly, where I’ve had friends who rose really quickly to really profound heights of stardom. And I watched the sand shift around them and the whole world change, and suddenly there were people jumping out of bushes to take pictures of them. So I think that was my in on this movie.

Outcome, directed and co-written by Jonah Hill alongside Ezra Woods, hits Apple TV+ on April 10, 2026.
