The popular crime drama series ‘Law & Order: Organized Crime‘ has been axed for a sixth season after five years by NBCUniversal, according to a news report released on April 16, 2026. It marks an end for the show that marked the long-awaited return of Christopher Meloni as Detective Elliot Stabler after he left the franchise for nearly a decade. According to sources, the cancellation can be attributed to high costs of production, changes behind the scenes, and new strategies for programming.

Heartbreaking Meloni farewell moves Hargitay to tears

While addressing the announcement of the show’s cancellation, Meloni issued a statement where he thanked fans for their immense support. “I just saw that they announced ‘Organized Crime’ won’t be coming back…Thank you. You helped give me a career that I never dreamed of, nearly 17 odd years,” he said. The emotional statement left an impression on actress Mariska Hargitay, who reportedly was in tears after seeing his message and later called herself “heartbroken” about the news.

Organized Crime premiered in 2021 as a revival series featuring Elliot Stabler, reconnecting the character to the SVU Universe and meeting Olivia Benson, played by Mariska Hargitay.

Over the course of the five seasons, the show shifted its focus toward the serialized storylines, which differed significantly from the standard format of the entire franchise. At this point, it marks the end of one of the most famous TV dynamics that remained unresolved within the same series.

The main cast featured such actors as Danielle Moné Truitt, Ainsley Seiger, and Rick Gonzalez, while the recurring guest stars, including Ellen Burstyn’s performance as Detective Stabler’s mother, were noted for their brilliant work in later seasons. In spite of this series being cancelled, the franchise itself goes on living. Law & Order: SVU recently confirmed to premiere its 28th season.

In the meantime, Christopher Meloni has already started a new series, which he will star in and produce together with Dan Fogelman as part of a Hulu drama. However, many fans have launched online campaigns aimed at reviving the show and giving it another chance on other broadcasting networks, but there have been no confirmations yet.

As a result, ‘Organized Crime’ finishes its storyline without any future plans to continue.
