The former NBA star Lamar Odom has detailed his fight with substance abuse in a feature-length documentary titled Untold: The Death & Life of Lamar Odom. The documentary centers on his near-fatal d— overdose at a Nevada BT in 2015 and the events surrounding it. Odom’s ex-wife, Khloé Kardashian, has been integral to his rehabilitation process; however, there is someone that Odom credits more than her for coming out the other end of his addiction.

God was his biggest saviour, says Odom

Odom recently appeared on Today with Jenna and Sheinelle to talk about his recently released documentary. The host Jenna Bush Hager noted that after watching the documentary, she came to the conclusion that Khloé stood by Odom and “saved” his life. However, Odom wasn’t entirely convinced by her assertion.

“In some ways,” the former athlete said, adding, “God saved my life. My lord saved my life, honestly.”

Then, the co-host of the show, Sheinelle Jones, pointed out the fact that he suffered 12 strokes, six heart attacks, and spent three days in a coma, following which his ex-wife helped him with the recovery process for four months, commending her for sticking by his side through such a traumatic ordeal. Responding to her comments, Odom acknowledged that she helped him out, but ultimately thanked God for coming out of his near-fatal overdose alive.

“She took care of me, but God took care of me the most. I came back from like a medical miracle,” the ex-NBA player stated.

Khloé Kardashian initially filed for divorce in 2013 amid Odom’s substance abuse issues and other marital problems, but later withdrew it following his near-fatal overdose to support his recovery. However, she refiled in 2016 following his relapse, and the divorce was ultimately finalized.

Lamar Odom has battled substance abuse issues dating back to his youth, when he reportedly began using m——– in the aftermath of his mother’s passing. Thereafter, his addiction escalated to harder d—-, which persisted throughout his NBA career and post-retirement. He married Khloé Kardashian in 2009, and his addictive behavior steadily became an issue in their relationship.
