Dreyfus and Cranston to star in Nelson Alzheimer’s themed drama
As reported by DiscussingFilm, the creators of Tangles have recently released an exclusive still, which glimpses the movie’s emotional depth. It follows the story of a runaway artist who returns home after Alzheimer’s disease begins striking her mother’s memory and jolly personality that once defined her.
The first look that’s been making rounds on the internet shows the two characters hugging each other. The movie features Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Bryan Cranston, and Seth Rogen in lead roles and is heading for a special screening at this year’s Cannes.
It has also booked a spot in the Annecy International Film Festival, which will take place in June. UTA Independent Film Group and CAA Media Finance have funded the project and acquired domestic rights, while Charades is handling international sales.
The official synopsis states, “When Alzheimer’s begins to erase her mother’s vibrant personality, Sarah leaves her exciting life as an activist and artist in 90’s San Francisco to return to her eccentric family in the conservative small town she recently fled. Initially confident she can manage the situation, she soon realizes she must accept the harsh, disorienting reality of the disease to become the daughter her family needs.”
The film is backed by a long list of producers with notable names, including Vicky Patel, Seth Rogen, and Miller Rogen. This project matters deeply to the trio, as they have been longtime activists for Alzheimer’s disease. Patel’s father was diagnosed with it in 2023, which inspired her to launch one of the country’s biggest fundraisers dedicated to research in brain science.
Meanwhile, Miller’s grandmother died of the disease. The tragedy led her to found Hilarity for Charity with her husband, Seth. The non-profit organization supports people and their families impacted by Alzheimer’s disease.
The additional cast joining the three actors includes Abbi Jacobson, Beanie Feldstein, Samira Wiley, Sarah Silverman, Wanda Sykes, Bowen Yang, Pamela Adlon, and Fern Grandin.
Under the Charades label, a total of 10 movies will be screened at Cannes as part of both the Official Selection and the parallel sections. Are you excited for this animated project? Drop your thoughts below!
