Creator Jeremy Slater finally provided an update on season 2 of Moon Knight. The show’s first season, backed by Marvel Studios, premiered in 2022. But unfortunately, there have been no developments regarding a second season since then. In a recent interview, Slater revealed that he is as much in the dark as the fans.
Slater reveals that he hasn’t spoken to Marvel in three years
Jeremy Slater has poured cold water on the growing speculation surrounding a second season of Moon Knight, admitting that he is clueless about the character’s future in the MCU. In a recent interview with ComicBook.com to promote Mortal Kombat II, Slater revealed that he has not spoken to Marvel Studios in roughly three years.
He said he has no insider knowledge about whether the film and television production company is developing a second season, a solo movie, or even the heavily rumored Midnight Sons project. “I haven’t talked to Marvel in three years at this point. I don’t know. Is there gonna be a Moon Knight movie? Is there gonna be a Midnight Sons movie? Is there gonna be a season 2? I’m as much in the dark as everyone else,” Slater said.
Most importantly, he doubts he would be involved creatively if Marvel decided to move forward with the show’s second season. What makes the situation interesting is that Slater also highlighted that Oscar Isaac reportedly struck an unusual deal with Marvel. According to him, the Frankenstein actor is not locked into a long, multi-project MCU contract like the ones many actors previously signed.
“The contract Oscar Isaac signed was very much like, we will do more stories when we find stories that he is creatively excited to tell,” Slater explained. That detail may explain why Moon Knight/Marc Spector has been MIA from live-action MCU projects since the Disney+ series ended in 2022, despite strong fan demand and positive reception for Isaac’s performance. The character has only briefly reappeared in animated form in the series What If…?
Nevertheless, Slater sounded optimistic that the superhero would eventually return. He revealed that Isaac enjoyed playing the character and was proud of the response from fans, expressing surprise if Marvel never brought him back. At the moment, the strongest rumor remains a potential Midnight Sons adaptation, which could see multiple Marvel characters team up.
The superheroes in focus could be Moon Knight, Blade, Ghost Rider, Elsa Bloodstone, and Black Knight. However, Marvel Studios has yet to officially announce the project. Last year, Marvel Television head Brad Winderbaum said that while there is interest in more Moon Knight stories, the studio’s current strategy may involve using the character in crossover projects rather than producing another season. Would you like the company to greenlight Moon Knight season 2?
