James Gunn has confirmed that Booster Gold remains in active development as part of theDCU’s Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters slate. In a detailed update, Gunn outlined how many of the DCU projects were still in various stages of development. According to the post, some projects like The Authority have been paused due to problems with writing. On the other hand, Gunn stated explicitly that Booster Gold was still in active development, despite earlier rumors that it had fallen into the pile of delayed projects.

Booster Gold is currently in development but will move into production soon

According to Gunn, Booster Gold is in development rather than in “extreme development.” While this means that there is not yet an active writers’ room and greenlight for the project, its position in the pipeline ensures that the series will eventually hit the screen. In the meantime, Booster Gold will feature the story of Michael Jon Carter, a time-traveling hero who uses technology from the future to create his superhero persona.

Currently, the script is written by David Jenkins, who will act as the showrunner after replacing Gunn himself as the head of the development team. As always, the Gunn approach to production involves a script-first method, implying that casting decisions will not come until the writing process stabilizes.

It should be noted that this information also dispels the rumors surrounding the casting of Kumail Nanjiani. Despite multiple sightings with Gunn and even mentions from DC cast members like Jensen Ackles, Nanjiani is not the confirmed choice for the lead just yet.

The update also comes as the broader DCU slate takes shape. The upcoming titles include Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow (2026), Man of Tomorrow (2027), and others. The series featuring Booster Gold will probably come out later on, most likely in 2027 or even beyond.

In general, Gunn’s latest comments imply that the project is not one of those that suffered from the recent delays in the DCU slate.
