Antoine Fuqua’s Michael, based on the eponymous King of Pop Michael Jackson, is all set to hit the theaters this week. It’s got all fans pumped up and stoked up, but the movie has also apparently caused a rift between the Jacksons. Here’s everything we know about the situation so far.
‘Michael’ biopic leaves the Jacksons divided
As reported by The New York Post, Paris Jackson’s absence from the film’s premiere in Berlin has caught everyone’s eye. Not just netizens but most media houses speculated a possible divide within the family.
A source close to the Jacksons told The New York Post, “In what should be a great time for this family, a time when everyone really gets a chance to not only rally around Katherine and the memory of Michael, but to celebrate Jaafar, there is still division, there is still infighting.”
Paris Jackson has been vocal in her concerns regarding the film. Not just her, but even Janet Jackson, who, earlier this month, had a heated disagreement with her brother Jermaine Jackson at a private screening, as suggested by some sources.
Michael Jackson’s daughter, Paris, had her qualms about her not being included in the creative process. She called out the film for fluff and even mentioned how it blatantly pedestalizes full-blown lies.
She wrote on Instagram, saying, “A big section of the film panders to a very specific section of my dad’s fandom that still lives in the fantasy, and they’re gonna be happy with it.”
This was back in September 2025, when she also took a dig at Colman Domingo, who claimed she was a part of the creative process. Paris Jackson was quick to address this and refute the rumors.
A large part of the controversy surrounding the movie is how it mainly softens the blow when it comes to Michael Jackson’s tumultuous life.
The controversy, his later life, media slander, and his comeback are some things the movie doesn’t address, as some netizens also suggest. Others, however, praised the movie thoroughly for its casting, its storytelling, albeit with allegations of the biopic being inaccurate.
Paris Jackson has yet to make a statement regarding the matter.
Michael is slated for release on 24th April 2026.
