Marriage, insecurity, and the “coolio indie songwriter”

Actress-singer Hilary Duff opened up about her insecurities when it comes to her marriage to Matthew Koma. She revealed, “I always think Matt’s going to leave me for some coolio indie songwriter that he works with,” she says. This insecurity is what is fueling the upcoming song “Holiday Party.”

Koma is reportedly working with big pop artists such as Sabrina Carpenter and Olivia Rodrigo. The singer, however, soon placated his wife’s insecurities. While the actress-singer called the fear of leaving his wife for another artist “which is so insane.”

“But also very real. Those are real things to get hung up on emotionally,” the singer also acknowledged the fear as an “emotionally honest fear.” Duff revealed how there were times when she would see Koma work with other artists and how the insecurities would come flooding back. She jokingly called it her “inner Lizzie,” referring to her role as Lizzie McGuire and the insecurities of her teen icon status.

For the first time, Duff talked about the rumors circulating that there was a disconnect between her and her sister, Haylie Duff. There is a song on the album titled “We Don’t Talk” that discusses the issue of separation and shared experiences. She said that it was the “most lonely part” of her life, compared to her divorce in 2015.

Duff also talked about the rumors circulating on TikTok that the use of a mustard-colored couch during her show in London was a symbol of her sister, Haylie. Duff said that she simply liked the color.

Luck… or Something is Duff’s first album in 11 years. Duff said that the album was all about the sound and the lyrics. Some of the top songs on the album include “Mature,” “Roommates,” and “The Optimist,” which talks about her complicated relationship with her father. “Future Tripping Out” is a pop song that talks about her anxiety as a grown-up.

Duff has announced that she will be going on tour in 2026, titled the “Lucky Me” World Tour. La Roux would be the opening act for Duff. The interesting thing about the tour is that Duff would be singing “What Dreams Are Made Of” live for the first time in over two decades, made popular by the movie “The Lizzie McGuire Movie.”

And, of course, Duff still dislikes “The Math” from the album “Metamorphosis.” Koma played the album simply to annoy Duff.
