CinemaCon 2026 unveiled some of the most exciting news, be it releases, trailers, new projects, and even cast announcements. Disney also followed the lead, and for its upcoming fantasy-witchy flick Hexed, Hailee Steinfeld and Rashida Jones are joining the cast. Here’s everything we know so far!
Hailee Steinfeld and Rashida Jones join Disney’s Hexed
As confirmed by Deadline, Hailee Steinfeld and Rashida Jones are all geared up to join Hexed. The animated movie is all about rediscovering identity, reinvention, and navigating relationships.
Steinfeld will voice Billy Doe, a troubled teen who discovers she has magical abilities and quirks. Now, these are not to be confused with the superhero quirks in MHA by any means.
The movie follows Billy’s relationship with his mother, played by Rashida Jones, as they travel to a witchy realm called Hexe. While it does sound familiar with the trope of a lead character struggling as an outcast, it surely seems refreshing, and here’s why. It focuses on Billie’s perspective as he views the world alongside his quirks and eccentricities. It also adds the theme of wonder, and while he is a teenage boy, he is given a realm to explore the depths and horizons of his magic.
His mother, Alice, on the other hand, is a perfect example of a parent who wishes to have her son more controlled, organized, disciplined, and adherent to norms. Both Alice and Billie are poles apart, and it would most certainly be fascinating to see how the movie plays out their dynamic.
Rashida Jones is a seasoned actress who has worked on movies and TV shows and even lent her voice to animated movies such as The Grinch, Klaus, Spies in Disguise, and Inside Out.
Hailee Steinfeld’s filmography is diverse and versatile. She has worked extensively in both Marvel and Disney, but here’s the thing. Her multifacetedness also applies to her career as a singer, songwriter, and, notably, a voice actor.
Her popular role as a voice actor, hands down, was Anna Sasaki in Studio Ghibli’s underrated flick When Marnie Was There. She also voiced Gwen Stacy in both Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.
Hexed is slated for release on 25th November 2026.
