Gina Carano will be facing UFC veteran Ronda Rousey in an MMA fight in May at the Intuit Dome, which will be streamed live on Netflix. Ahead of the fight, Carano sat down with Ariel Helwani to discuss her martial arts career as well as her pivot to Hollywood. While talking to Helwani, she confirmed that she has been in touch with key members of Lucasfilm about a potential return to the Star Wars franchise after settling her lawsuit with The Walt Disney Company.
Gina Carano says contact has been established with Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau after Disney settlement
In her conversation with Ariel Helwani, she stated that she has had talks with Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau, two key creative figures behind modern Star Wars content, especially The Mandalorian. Notably, Carano played Cara Dune in The Mandalorian, but was fired in 2021 over controversial posts online, which prompted her to file a lawsuit. Now, the situation with Disney appears to be on the mend after the case was settled in 2025.
“I’ve already had a conversation with Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau. Really lovely. After we settled the lawsuit, we got onto a Zoom call. It was really nice. Dave Filoni is taking over CEO of Star Wars. We didn’t even miss a beat,” she told Helwani.
“We hadn’t spoken for a while. He was like, ‘Where did we leave off?’ and I was like, ‘Yeah,’” she further added. It is a positive development following how strained her relationship was with Disney. Carano played a major role in The Mandalorian, and there were also plans for a spin-off show built around her character called Rangers of the New Republic, which was ultimately scrapped.
However, the rumor mill says that Carano’s settlement with Disney paves the way for partnerships in upcoming projects, including a possible revival of Rangers of the New Republic. As things stand, there is no official confirmation from Disney or Lucasfilm about her possible comeback to the Star Wars universe.
