It’s been almost 4 decades since Jumanji premiered and left an impact on the movie scene as a whole. This year, the makers are all geared up to release the final installment in the franchise. Dwayne Johnson also did his bit to pay his tribute to the late actor Robin Williams.
Dwayne Johnson’s heartfelt tribute to Robin Williams
As reported by The Wrap, the team behind Jumanji shared details of the upcoming movie at CinemaCon 2026. This includes plot, characters, and the subsequent process of going ahead with the film.
Dwayne Johnson, who plays Dr. Alexander Smolder, also opened up about how this film is a tribute to Robin Williams, the late actor who started it all. Johnson had queued up the footage by saying the film is dedicated to Robin Williams, star of the original “Jumanji” movie.
Jumanji is one of the best performances by Robin Williams, where he portrayed the headstrong Alan Parrish. He gets stuck inside the game as a teenager, and it is only when the Shephard siblings Judy and Peter discover the game that he finally gets out of the game.
There is one condition, though: they must play the game until the end. What follows is absolute mayhem and chaos as they are joined by Sarah Whittle, Alan’s crush, and Van Pelt, a hunter who chases Alan throughout the game.
Jumanji: Open World ended with everyone escaping the game except for Milo, who stayed in the game. He was, in real life, dying of a terminal condition, and for him, Jumanji became a sort of closure.
This wasn’t the end, though, because the game ultimately crashed out because of a mishap. This unleashed several creatures, including ostriches, into real life, where they are running amok.
It’s straight-up parallel to the first movie, where Judy and Peter rolled the dice, and it triggered a chain of reactions. There were elephants, spiders, snakes, and even spiders that entered the human world and caused chaos.
The final film is all about wrapping up the chaos as the team must find a way to resolve all these issues. They must work together to play the game one last time and put an end to the conundrum.
Jumanji: The Next Level is slated for release on 25th December 2026.
