Bryan Cranston and Frankie Muniz were on a press tour ahead of their upcoming miniseries Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair, a limited revival of the iconic Malcolm in the Middle show from the 2000s. The four-episode series dropped on April 10. In a recent interview, while promoting the series, Frankie Muniz spoke about a film he didn’t end up doing, with the role eventually going to Shia LaBeouf. The discussion prompted a sarcastic response from Bryan Cranston involving LaBeouf.
Shia LaBeouf catches strays as Bryan Cranston tries to reassure Frankie Muniz
In a recent video interview with Esquire, Muniz opened up about how he passed on the role of Stanley Yelnats in the 2003 Disney movie Holes, which was a critical and commercial success, with the lead actor earning rave reviews. The actor stated that he instead starred in the family-friendly spy franchise Agent Cody Banks and wondered how his career would have panned out if he had starred in the Shia LaBeouf-led Disney movie.
“I was signed to be in the movie ‘Holes,’ and it was 100% about to start filming, and then ‘Cody Banks’ was greenlit. They were like, ‘Which one do you want to do?’” Muniz recounted, adding, “I immediately picked ‘Agent Cody Banks,’ but I remember everyone pushing me to do ‘Holes’ because of the story, and it’s a little more dramatic. Shia LaBeouf ended up doing it, and it kind of catapulted his movie career.”
“I wonder what my career or life would’ve been [had I done it instead]. What could’ve come with it? Would I have been taken more seriously as an actor?” he further stated.
Immediately, Cranston responded with a dry, sarcastic quip, saying, “You could’ve had Shia LaBeouf’s life.”
“Keep that one in. Shia, get some help!” he added.
The Transformers actor has faced multiple legal issues and personal struggles over the years. He has also been the subject of a civil lawsuit alleging sexual battery, physical assault, and emotional abuse. Additionally, he has been involved in incidents of public intoxication and disorderly conduct.
