The Mummy actor Brendan Fraser will return to the big screen with the upcoming sci-fi thriller, Starman. The new cosmic thriller will be directed by Josh Wakely, who is an Emmy-winning director best known for the animated Netflix projects Beat Bugs and Motown Magic. So, here’s what we know about the project so far.
Fraser to play a visionary technologist in the upcoming Martian drama
The upcoming film centers on Tom Adams, played by Fraser, a visionary technologist on a historic expedition to Mars. However, the mission becomes compromised, leaving Adams stranded millions of miles away from Earth. His mission soon turns into a desperate race against time, driven by love as much as by survival. Starman is being produced by GRACE: A Storytelling Company and Sight Unseen.
Production duties for the project will be handled by Eddie Vaisman of Sight Unseen. He has previously worked on Searchlight Pictures’ Rental Family (2025), which starred Fraser in the lead role. Josh Wakely and Rebecca Graham from GRACE will also serve as producers. Meanwhile, David S. Goyer is serving as one of its executive producers, along with Tarek Sherif, Ryan Graves, and Julia Lebedev.
Goyer has been involved in notable projects such as Blade, The Dark Knight, Foundation, and Man of Steel. This lineup proves his extensive experience with large-scale productions. A release date for the movie has not been set yet, with production expected to kickstart this summer.
Starman joins a growing slate of major upcoming projects for Fraser, including the WWII historical thriller Pressure. He plays Dwight D. Eisenhower alongside Andrew Scott, who takes on the role of a chief meteorological officer named James Stagg. Moreover, rumors and fan petitions have urged Fraser to return to the Mummy franchise. The 57-year-old actor has expressed interest in reprising his iconic role.
However, Universal Pictures has not officially greenlit the fourth installment. With fans associating him with high-intensity adventure movies like The Mummy, Journey to the Center of the Earth, and Inkheart, it will be interesting to see how Fraser fares in this emotional sci-fi Martian adventure. He has enjoyed a revival following his Oscar-winning performance in Darren Aronofsky’s The Whale.
And now, he has a string of projects lined up in which he can once again showcase his acting chops to a new generation of audiences at this stage of his career. With Wakely directing and Goyer executive producing, the project appears to combine blockbuster sci-fi spectacle with emotional storytelling as Fraser continues his Hollywood comeback era.
