Brenda Song reveals the real reason she won’t do Wendy Wu sequel

Brenda Song revealed why she has no interest in returning for a Wendy Wu sequel, saying the beloved Disney movie is better “left untouched.”

Brenda Song became a household name after playing the titular character in Wendy Wu: Homecoming Warrior. Released in 2006, it was one of Disney’s biggest original movies. It helped establish Song beyond her role as London Tipton in The Suite Life of Zack & Cody. In a recent interview, the actress revealed whether she would be ready to do a sequel to the movie that elevated her status.

Song feels the original Wendy Wu should be left “untouched

Song recently revealed that she has little interest in revisiting one of her most beloved Disney roles in a sequel to Wendy Wu: Homecoming Warrior. During an interview with Complex News, she stated that the story is better “left untouched,” joking that she is “too old” to be featured in any Disney sequels.

“I mean, I love Disney so much. I wish there were a possibility in the world; it would be so much fun. But, I feel like some things are better left untouched, you know, I wouldn’t want to ruin anything,” she said, adding, “I feel like I am much too old to be doing any Disney sequel.” Song suggested that revisiting the character now might detract from what made the movie special in the first place.

The actor, 38, had stated in earlier interviews that the movie was very physically demanding. It required her to undergo extensive martial arts and stunt training because the storyline involved multiple fight sequences. However, at this stage of her life, Song would not want to go through that grind again. The actress was only eighteen when she starred in the movie.

“I mean, at this point, it would be like Grandma Wendy. I don’t know how they would make that a sequel at this point. I do not feel the same. I look at some of that, and I was like, ‘My back hurts thinking about that,’” she added. The martial arts fantasy movie drew more than 5.7 million viewers during its premiere and even had a planned sequel in development before Disney ultimately canceled it.

Even though some fans would certainly like to watch a direct sequel to the fan-favorite movie, Song does not seem too keen on revisiting the role. She basically doused speculation about a possible return as Wendy Wu. Would you have liked to watch Song reprising her iconic role? Tell us in the comments below.
