Blake Lively wins big as Justin Baldoni’s countersuit is tossed

Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni have settled their legal feud, but court documents reveal Lively can still pursue attorneys’ fees and damages.

The long-running legal feud between Justin Baldoni and Blake Lively has seemingly come to an end. There will be no further trials, as both parties have decided to settle. However, newly revealed court details suggest the dispute is not entirely over.

Blake Lively can still claim attorneys’ fees from Baldoni, as per court documents

According to recently filed settlement documents, both sides decided to settle the remaining claims tied to the production of It Ends with Us just weeks before the charges of breach of contract, retaliation, and aiding and abetting retaliation were set to go to trial. As per media reports, the exact terms of the settlement were supposed to remain undisclosed from the public, but industry insiders have stated that no money exchanged hands between the two parties as part of the settlement.

However, as per recent developments, Baldoni is not out of the woods completely, as Lively still retains the right to pursue attorneys’ fees, damages, and possible punitive damages under California law.

“Notwithstanding anything herein to the contrary, the Stipulating Parties acknowledge and agree that Blake Lively does not release, and retains all claims, rights, and remedies in connection with her pending Motion for Attorneys’ Fees, Treble Damages, and Punitive Damages under California Civil Code Section 47.1 in the Wayfarer Action,” the settlement notice filed in the Supreme Court revealed.

Back in late 2024, Lively accused Baldoni of s—– harassment and claimed that he and his associates orchestrated a smear campaign against her after she raised concerns during production. Baldoni denied the allegations and later filed a massive $400 million countersuit against Lively, Ryan Reynolds, and others, accusing them of defamation and attempting to destroy his reputation.

Baldoni’s countersuit was thrown out last year, while the majority of Lively’s allegations, including s—– harassment, defamation, civil conspiracy, and multiple workplace-related misconduct charges, were dismissed.

Lively’s legal team argues the settlement validates her retaliation allegations because Baldoni and Wayfarer Studios agreed not to appeal the case further. Her lawyers described the outcome as a “resounding victory,” as she can still seek compensation and legal fees under the aforementioned clause in California law.

Following the settlement, both parties issued a joint statement expressing hope that the legal matter has been brought to a close and “allows all involved to move forward constructively and in peace, including a respectful environment online.”

Nevertheless, it is very difficult to ascertain who has emerged as a clear winner in the long-drawn legal battle, but for the time being, it appears that Baldoni and Lively have reached a truce.
