Billie Eilish’s upcoming project is a 3D concert film centered around the tour for her third studio album, Hit Me Hard and Soft. Titled Billie Eilish – Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour (Live in 3D), the film is being co-directed by Eilish herself, with James Cameron. In a recent interview with Elle, the musician revealed that she has been exploring new acting opportunities apart from making music.

Writing and directing is too much work for Billie Eilish

In the interview, Billie Eilish revealed that writing and directing a film feels overwhelming and may not be something she would like to pursue anytime soon. However, she said she is actively interested in acting and wants to explore where it leads. “Writing and directing a film is so much work. I don’t know if that’ll ever be a thing that I do, but the acting side [is what] I’m really interested in. We’ll see where that takes us,” she said.

However, this isn’t a bolt out of the blue, as Eilish has been quietly building toward acting. The What Was I Made For singer previously appeared on the TV series Swarm. Reports suggest that she is also in talks to star in a film adaptation of Sylvia Plath’s famous novel, The Bell Jar, marking a potential big-screen debut. In a nutshell, she is open to being in front of the camera but not keen on running the entire show.

Nevertheless, Eilish and Cameron collaborated closely in the upcoming project, with the singer wearing many hats. She focused on performance, staging, and lighting, while Cameron brought his expertise in advanced 3D technology, earning them joint directorial credits. Although Eilish is not particularly fond of the cameras, she is glad to have a piece of work that will serve as a snapshot in time.

“Capturing a show that I can watch when I’m old and feel like I’m there again…it gives me chills,” she said, adding, “And I’m so grateful that it’s going to live forever.” Now, it remains to be seen how she balances her music and acting careers as she starts taking on more roles.
