JJK Season 3 is nothing short of a cinematic masterpiece. The fights are amped up along with the stakes. Such happens to be the case in Episode 10, where Megumi Fushiguro was entirely cornered in the Culling Game clash

Megumi Fushiguro’s ace of spades against Reggie Star

Episode 10 opens with Reggie Star explaining Kenjaku’s schemes to drop a bomb on players at any given point in time. His scouting allies are merely a means of strengthening his stance in the game. He also invites Megumi to join him, but Megumi rejects it completely.

Megumi would rather have all their points than kill them. He is then attacked by Chizuru Hari, but he can fend him off. What followed were clean-cut action sequences that added to the theatrics of it all. Both fight their way into the building and in close quarters, after which Megumi ultimately kills Hari.

Megumi fights one-on-one with Hari and brutally ends his life. He gets his point, too, but is cornered by both Reggie and Hazenoki.

Jest in a macabre fest: Enter Hakaba

Hakaba would remind you of every gung-ho character in anime. He’s flamboyant and gung-ho, especially when he defends against Hazenoki’s attack. He gets a head injury, and it’s a complete gore fest. The moment, however, is strangely placed yet fits in well with the narrative.

Even in his injured state, he can withstand a detonation from Hazenoki. He decides to go for a one-on-one with him, but before that, he plays out his comical antics. The character will surely remind you of Might Guy from Naruto, and his battle outfit would have anyone in stitches.

What’s impressive about his character is his realness. While he may come off as silly, Takaba’s speed is unmatched. The episode gave a brief glimpse into his potential as a sorcerer. Even Hazenoki acknowledged the guy’s speed during their brief spar.

Not to mention, the thousand years of death move will surely crack anime fans up. Takaba’s entry was a much-needed comical respite in the face of the gorefest, but let’s jump right into the main battle.

Megumi’s aura farming moment

Takaba’s entry that provides an opening for Megumi to play tag with Reggie. While he takes on Hazenoki, Megumi uses Nue to track Reggie. The latter uses his receipts to take down buildings and trap Megumi. He lures Fushiguro to a church where he rejuvenates his energy using his cursed technique, the Contractual Recreation.

Compared to Reggie, Megumi exhausts his energy using multiple shikigami at once. He uses Max Elephant twice, and because he cannot defeat Reggie, he flees.

Or so you would think, but Megumi, in turn, traps Reggie in this Uno reverse situation. He ensnares him by luring him into a gymnasium and leads him to think he has no high-input moves.

It’s in the end scene that Megumi uses his domain expansion: Chimera Shadow Garden. But why didn’t he use it earlier? Well, it was incomplete, and Tokyo no. 1 colony did not seem sufficient for the domain expansion to work.

Megumi also worked tactfully throughout the whole fight by tricking his opponent into believing that he lacks an ultimate power move. This is the ace of spades that he was hiding in his sleeve all along.

MAPPA’s craftsmanship shines through

No amount of slander can make one dispute MAPPA’s animation this season. From Maki Zenin’s Kill Bill sequence to Megumi’s fight sequence against Reggie Star, the impact frames were laid out so brilliantly.

What stood out the most was the initial scene in the episode, the one in which Kazenoki uses his ability to cause explosions. It is eerie and visceral, but the slow-motion transition is what makes the impact of the entire scene visually stunning.

MAPPA gave us some amazing fights earlier, too. JJK fans know how Yuji’s showdown with Choso was nothing short of a masterpiece. The upcoming episode might outdo it even, but all we have to do is wait.
