The third season of Euphoria brings back some of the most iconic characters while also paying tribute to those who departed. One such actor was Angus Cloud, who was cherished by both fans and fellow castmates, including Maude Apatow. The actress recently gave an emotional tribute to the late star, whose character was gearing up for a love arc with Apatow’s Lexi Howard on the HBO show. Here’s what she said in her heartfelt note.
Maude Apatow opens up on losing Angus Cloud
In a recent interview with Who What Wear, Maude Apatow touched upon Angus Cloud’s passing. “Angus was just the best person to be around. He was so funny and full of life—such an energy all the time. We lost that when we lost him,” she said. Cloud passed away on July 31, 2023, at age 25, leaving the show’s cast and fans devastated and heartbroken.
He played Fezco in the first two seasons of Euphoria, serving as a local dealer and Rue Bennett’s (Zendaya) close friend. Moreover, the character opens up to Lexi and eventually becomes her love interest in season 2. Lexi Howard, played by Apatow, is one of the pivotal characters in Sam Levinson’s series. She acts as a guiding light for Rue and her other friends. The show’s second season ends with Fezco getting arrested following a violent SWAT raid.
In Season 3, Cloud’s character doesn’t return in person and is serving a long prison sentence offscreen. When the tragic news broke in 2023, many cast members poured their condolences, including Zendaya and Apatow. The latter took to Instagram in 2023, sharing a picture and note in honor of the late star. She described him as “the funniest person ever.“
“I would get so excited to see on the schedule that we would be working together because I knew we’d have the best day, laughing so hard,” the rest of the note reads. “He was the sweetest and made everyone around him so happy. He was just the best. Words can’t really capture how magical a person he was. My heart is broken. Angus, getting to know and work with you was one of the greatest joys and blessings of my life. I will love you forever.“
Sam Levinson, director of Euphoria, also paid an emotional tribute to late actors Angus Cloud and Eric Dane, who were essential characters on the show. Cloud’s untimely death is indeed very tragic, and we’ll continue to celebrate the incredible talent he brought to the screen.
