The Devil Wears Prada 2 has been making waves on the internet since its recent global release on May 1. There’s fashion, drama, countless iconic moments, and an even more iconic cast. The high-budget film features Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci in the lead roles. Given the rich legacy of the first installment, many wondered: How much did the main cast make for this one? Here’s a look at their estimated earnings.
The earnings of The Devil Wears Prada 2 stars revealed
As Variety reported in its exclusive feature, the movie’s main cast negotiated for the same salary. This was after Streep advocated for the same pay, with both Blunt and Hathaway currently earning around $13 million for the sequel. But this figure could rise to $20 million if the film does exceptionally well at the box office. This includes both global and domestic gross earnings.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 has earned over $320 million at the box office as of now, according to recent reports. It is, however, still subject to change as popularity and viewership grow. The 2006 film grossed $327 million worldwide, and Streep reportedly received less than what her popularity would have suggested. Naturally, it was said the veteran actress wasn’t content with her pay.
Meanwhile, many fans and netizens hailed and praised Streep’s decision and advocacy for equal pay. So far, the sequel has received an average rating of 6/10 on IMDb and a 78% score on Rotten Tomatoes. While the original film had a budget of $40 million, the sequel is estimated to have cost around $100 million. Deadline also reported that the sequel has grossed $324 million worldwide in its first week of release.
The sequel focuses on the return of Andrea “Andy” Sachs (Hathaway) to Runway almost 17 years after she quit. She helps her boss, Miranda Priestly (Streep), remake and rebrand the elite high-fashion magazine while facing fierce competition in the publishing world. One of them, surprise surprise, is Emily Charlton (Blunt). Yep, she is none other than Priestly’s former first assistant.
The movie also stars Tucci, who reprises his role as Nigel. He’s the creative director at Runway and serves as Andy’s work friend/mentor. Moreover, the fashion drama features some interesting cameos that take it to a whole other level. The Devil Wears Prada 2 is available in theaters near you.
