Some may know Laz Alonso as Tsu’Tey from Avatar, but his breakthrough role has to be MM from Eric Kripke’s The Boys. The actor rose to fame with his role alongside Frenchie and Kimiko. Now looking back, he spoke up about how he questioned Amazon for Season 3 posters, and here’s why.

Laz Alonso addresses The Boys S3 promo posters

In a conversation with MensHealthMag, the actor spoke about questioning Amazon about whether they added weight to the promotional posters, saying, “It didn’t hit me until I saw the promotional posters for S3 and I saw my face, and I was like, ‘Who the h— is that’..I actually asked Amazon if they had added weight to me. I was pushing 250, and it was a lot of weight, and it wasn’t healthy….S3 I was Mother’s Butter Milk, and I had to change that.”

There was a drastic change between the promotional posters of seasons 3 and 4, and even fans noticed it. Some wondered if it was thyroid, while others continued to speculate on the nature of the weight loss.

For season 4 of The Boys, the actor lost 40 pounds, and he started doing so after he gained weight during COVID. He revealed this to Men’s Health Magazine in a 2024 interview.

‘I was heavy on caloric surplus when I first started the show. Seasons one and two, I wanted to look like the comic. Season three, we shot during and after Covid, and I went from looking like the comic to looking like the very inflated version of the comic.

In the comics, MM is all bulked up and in full diesel mode, come to think of it. Like every actor, Alonso also gave his full dedication and sincerity for the role and chucked out takeout foods and stopped buying meals from delivery apps, as he later revealed.

Netizens encouraged and praised his dedication, as it truly reflected the character’s struggles throughout the show. This includes his OCD, but also the PTSD he suffers from because of what Soldier Boy put him and his family through.

The Boys is currently available for streaming on Amazon Prime.
