Chris Evans is gearing up for his 13th appearance in the expanding Marvel Cinematic Universe through his now-confirmed role in Avengers: Doomsday. But this isn’t the only project he’ll be part of this year. Latest reports suggest that the 44-year-old actor has just replaced Josh Brolin in a crime thriller, My Darling California, which is being written and directed by Elijah Bynum. Read on to know more!
Chris Evans joins the star-studded cast of My Darling California
According to Deadline, Chris Evans is stepping in for Josh Brolin, who exited the project because of scheduling conflicts. Now, the Captain America heartthrob will be acting alongside talented stars such as Jessica Chastain, Chris Pine, Mikey Madison, Charles Melton, and Don Cheadle.
Written and directed by Elijah Bynum, My Darling California is set in Los Angeles in the 1980s. It explores the journey of a TV host, his impatient wife, a country musician, two crooks, and a former con artist. While they all attempt to seek a better life, their lives become intertwined by a single crime. The movie is still under pre-production, with the shooting slated to begin around September.
David Hinojosa, Alex Coco, and Sébastien Reybaud are producing the project while Zach Nutman serves as the executive producer. Moreover, Anton, a European producer-financier, is financing the movie and will also co-represent its U.S. and global rights with CAA Media Finance.
While My Darling California probably has a year or two before its release, Chris Evans is creating serious buzz for his return as one of Marvel’s most iconic superheroes: Captain America. It’s shocking because it seemed like his character, Steve Rogers, moved on in his life after he handed the Captain America mantle to Sam Wilson at the end of Avengers: Endgame.
But at CinemaCon 2026, the new trailer for Avengers: Doomsday featured Chris reprising his role. The high-octane moment unfolds when Thor (Chris Hemsworth) says that the Avengers will “need a miracle” to fight Victor Von Doom (Robert Downey Jr.). Right when Thor seems to give up, Evan Rogers appears and pulls Mjolnir from his teammate’s grasp.
“Hey, pal,” he greets Thor, who then buckles up to face Dr. Doom. This new trailer hasn’t been made public yet, but this moment will likely break the internet. It is indeed an exciting time to be a Chris Evans fan. Are you excited for his upcoming projects? Let us know in the comments.
