If there’s one iconic The Devil Wears Prada character fans couldn’t get enough of, it was Emily Charlton. Played by Emily Blunt, this character served looks and some hard roasts, but here’s the thing. The real Emily Charlton finally spoke about her disappointment, and here’s how it went!

Real-life Emily from The Devil Wears Prada expresses disappointment

Leslie Fremar, a celebrity stylist, recently did an interview on Vogue’s Run- Through podcast. She spoke about how the book felt like a betrayal and how mispainted her role truly was. Regarding Lauren Wesiberger’s approach, she said,

“It just felt like this exposure. Even though someone obviously advised her to make it fiction, it was really based on a lot of things that, you know, I lived, she lived… I probably was not very nice, and I probably was high-strung because I felt like I was having to do her job as well. So for me, that was really frustrating. I think she was probably just sitting there writing a book and not necessarily taking the job as seriously as I did. We never talked again after she left.”

Emily Charlton’s character is played by Emily Blunt, who elevated the cheeky and witty humor in the movie. As Miranda Priestly’s assistant, she strives for perfection and even looks down on Andy Sachs, that is, before the latter undergoes a makeover.

While Fremar was an inspiration behind Emily’s character, the book created Miranda’s character solely on Anna Wintour, and likewise, Runway mirrored Vogue in many ways in the movie, as many pointed out.

In the podcast, Fremar also revealed jokingly how she revealed herself as the real Emily to Emily Blunt, but the actress didn’t seem interested and rather gave a bland “oh okay” as a response to the stylist’s revelation.

From Charlize Theron and Hailey Bieber to Nicole Kidman and Jennifer Connelly, Fremar has styled some of the most illustrious actors and celebrities in Hollywood. Fremar previously worked at Vogue and then became associated with brands like Prada, Dior, Givenchy, and so on.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 is slated for release on 1st May 2026.
