The Whisper Man is set to premiere globally on August 28, 2026, as Netflix rolls out its latest crime thriller in partnership with AGBO. First-look images released on April 28–29 confirmed the tone and scale of the adaptation, based on Alex North’s 2019 bestseller. The film brings together a high-profile cast led by Adam Scott and Robert De Niro, with direction from James Ashcroft.

Key cast members, plot, and production information

Production has already wrapped, positioning the film as a major late-summer release for the platform. The project also marks another entry in Netflix’s ongoing collaboration with the Russo brothers’ production banner.

Tom Kennedy, portrayed by Scott, is a widowed crime novelist who moves with his only son, Jake, to Featherbank, trying to give him a new perspective after the loss of their wife/mother. The tranquility is ruined quickly as the little boy disappears and becomes the center of attention of the investigation of a serial killer, called the Whisper Man, because he approached his victims by whispering through their window.

Peter Willis, portrayed by Robert De Niro, is Tom’s long-estranged father and the former detective who caught the original criminal. He now forces him to investigate this mysterious crime and discover connections between them. Michael Keaton takes the role of Francis “Frank” Carter, the convicted Whisper Man, currently serving time. There’s one big question that remains open in this story: Is this a copycat, or is there more mystery surrounding this murder?

Amanda Beck, the head of the investigation and the only clue in Tom’s life after his wife passed away, will be played by Michelle Monaghan. Other characters include Jake Kennedy, portrayed by Acston Luca Porto, John Carroll Lynch, Hamish Linklater, Owen Teague, and Will Brill.

Writers of the screenplay are Ben Jacoby and Chase Palmer. The movie will be produced by Anthony Russo and Joe Russo in cooperation with AGBO Studios. Peter Deming serves as the director of photography with a long list of projects like Twin Peaks and Mulholland Drive.

Shooting began on the 7th of April 2025 and lasted until the 4th of June. It happened in North Plainfield, New Jersey, with an estimated duration of 110 to 115 minutes. The movie features a mysterious rhyme that keeps popping up all over the narrative, creating a feeling of horror. “If you leave a door half open, soon you’ll hear the whispers spoken… If you’re lonely, sad, and blue, the Whisper Man will come for you.”

The producers stated that the movie should be seen primarily as a thriller where family relationships play a key role, along with the plot itself. They especially emphasized the father-son dynamics in this story.
