The Annecy International Film Festival is quite a prestigious event for film directors, actors, animators, and the like. It is host to a multitude of events, and this time it sure looks magnificent. This is especially the case with Brad Bird’s sci-fi noir film, Ray Gunn, which will take the center stage, and here’s everything we know about it!
Brad Bird’s film Ray Gunn to be spotlighted at Annecy 2026
As reported by Deadline, Brad Bird, Ricky Gervais, and Brothers Quay are some of the important guests at the upcoming Annecy International Film Festival. They will be showcasing their works. Among them, Bird’s neo-noir animated movie, Ray Gunn, will be featured as well. It stars Sam Rockwell and Scarlett Johansson in central roles.
The movie explores the journey of a P.I, the one and only one in a world filled with robots and machines. The story is set in a neo-futuristic city called Metropia, where Ray Gunn, the P.I., explores the case of a Hollywood starlet, Supernova.
Ray Gunn is visually stunning as it brings out both noir elements and futuristic themes through the color schemes and landscapes. It is brilliantly done, as pointed out by many. The animation is a courtesy of Skydance Animation Studio, which has previously worked on Spellbound, Luck, and Swapped.
Bird has previously directed Tomorrowland, Incredibles 1 and 2, and most notably, Ratatouille. He is not only a director but also a seasoned animator and a voice actor who has worked on a diverse roster of projects as a whole.
What makes the movie fascinating is that it took almost 30 years for the movie to be made, and it includes the production, the development, and the initial concept.
Bird previously pitched the film to Pixar, who rejected it and instead favored The Incredibles, which was released in 2004. The movie is also co-written by Matthew Robbins, who wrote the screenplays of Crimson Peak, Madame, and Pinocchio.
Not only that, but Ray Gunn’s music is done by Michael Giacchino, who composed the score for Lost, Up, and video game franchises like Call of Duty and Medal of Honor.
Ray Gunn is slated for release in 2026.
